Abstract:
The South of Madagascar is regularly struck by food shortages linked to climatic accidents compounded by other factors, usually political, like the economic blockade of 2002. The analysis of the relation between vulnerability, poverty and inequalities is based on seven years of surveys on a panel of households in Ambovombe. In a context of great poverty and steep social inequalities, it is the range of choices between possible strategies which commands the level of vulnerability among households.
