Abstract:
Urban sprawl and integration process of rural areas raise new questions on the place of agriculture in city regions?planning. Agricultural sector remains central to control urban sprawl even though its economic dimension is challenged. Agriculture becomes an instrument to answer urban demand of nature and landscape quality and to settle a rural identity of emerging intercommunal peripheral institutions in front of the central city. But does such context consider agriculture or also farmers ? The diversified functions attributed to agriculture are confronted to technico-economic problems and farmers?land difficult control. It is unlikely that main peri-urban farmers will agree with this new conceptual frame of multifonctionality of their activity.
