Faut-il abandonner la politique aux marchés ? Réflexions autour de la consommation engagée

Franck Cochoy

Revue française de socio-Economie, 2008, vol. n° 1, issue 1, 107-129

Abstract: Are markets quite good vehicles for political objectives? For the promoters of political consumerism (on the demand side) and Corporate Social Responsibility (on the supply side), the answer is clearly positive: they take markets and politics as too separate universes and then propose politics penetrate markets in order to renew the means of political action. After a review of the works and arguments supporting such a view, the paper tries to show its limits and dangers. It thus suggests not neglecting the political contribution of ordinary markets, and consequently not abandoning politics to markets.
