Availability and Use of Aircraft in the Air Force and Navy
Congressional Budget Office
No 57433, Reports from Congressional Budget Office
Abstract:
CBO finds that aircraft availability rates—measured as the percentage of time aircraft can be flown on training or missions—declined in both the Air Force and the Navy from 2001 through 2019, but the decline was more marked in the Navy, which includes the Marine Corps. The availability rates of the Navy’s fighters and attack aircraft fell considerably more than the rates of the Air Force’s fighters and attack aircraft. Flying hours per aircraft declined in both the Air Force and the Navy.
