Abstract: This paper proposes an approach to defining evolutionary scenarios for the deployment of an Automated Highway System (AHS). Six dimensions of deployment difficulties are identified: technology, infrastructure, human factors, vehicle manufacturing and maintenance, insurance, and public will.
