LBD Documentation: Defining Active Establishments and Other Data Issues
Javier Miranda
CES Technical Notes Series from Center for Economic Studies, U.S. Census Bureau
Abstract:
This CES Technical Note documents issues encountered while preparing the SSEL files for longitudinal linking. These issues relate mostly to defining the criteria for active establishments in specific years. This is a necessary preliminary step before the actual matching can begin. In this step only active establishments are selected for longitudinal linking (no actual linking is done here). Failing to pay attention to these particulars will result in an inaccurate definition of the set of active establishments. Table 2 provides frequency counts of the number of active establishments for both the Single Unit and Multi Unit files. Table 3 in Appendix A (pg 5) provides employment counts.
