Abstract:
The technology frontier that was dominated by the United States, Europe and Japan in the early 2000s is now much more polarised between the American and Chinese patent offices. Antonin Bergeaud and Cyril Verluise show that the gap in the quality of patents is also closing - and highlight potential barriers to continued technological innovation.
