CIRANO Project Reports from CIRANO

Abstract: A review of tweets collected during the 2019 federal election campaign shows conversations that influence the public agenda. There is a polarization on some topics for which strong opinions dominate. In such cases, exchanges are very limited between participants, and it could lead to the creation of parallel realities, making it difficult to have a common understanding of public policies. Several components of Canadian conversations are similar to the American conversations, notably around a populist discourse.
