Ramona Frunza and Ciprian Alupului

Regional and Sectoral Economic Studies, 2012, vol. 12, issue 1, 55-68

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to analyze the macro-region as a new form of territorial cooperation at EU level under discussion on the future of cohesion policy. The study describes the main actions regarding the development strategies of Danube and Black Sea macro-regions, based on an empirical analysis about the importance of the territorial positioning and its effects on transport costs. The results of our research highlighted that a macro-region can become viable, effectively functioning, only through the involvement of the empowered authorities in an active and responsible manner.
