The euro system household finance and consumption survey: an important resource for policy-makers and researchers

Abstract: The results from the first wave of the Eurosystem Household Finance and Consumption Survey have recently been published and micro data are available to researchers. This article discusses the usefulness of these data for both policy-makers and researchers. A key advantage of the survey is that it allows an analysis of the considerable heterogeneity in the finances of euro area households, and how this is affected by cross-country differences in institutions and policies.
