Abstract: The paper aims to evaluate the possible sustainable management of energy, within the 1062 Italian hospitals. The hospital is the only public building that operates continuously throughout the year. It is a 24-hour facility. Although the theme has been treated in the literature, there is no empirical evidence concerning the same country of the European Union to the number of structures analyzed and energy consumption. Furthermore, Italy is a country heavily dependent on sources of energy supply. The methodological approach has been that of a joint evaluation both of organizational types that is energetic. In the discussion, possible solutions emerge, operational interventions, to make the energy management of hospitals, more efficient. The role of the energy manager and the presence of structures dedicated to energy management emerge as the main bottlenecks for achieving better energy efficiency
