How important is trust in driving financial inclusion?

Saibal Ghosh

Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Finance, 2021, vol. 30, issue C

Abstract: The study investigates the importance of trust for financial inclusion. Using survey data for India, the results indicate that trust leads to a significant improvement in both account ownership and use. Robustness tests show a significant differential impact across categories such as gender, location and those with mobile phone. The analysis suggests the need for a holistic assessment of the financial inclusion agenda, taking on board the role and relevance of trust in driving the process.
