Evaluation and determinants of satisfaction with the urban-rural interface area liveability toward “15-min city”: A case study in Henan Province, China

Abstract: Building liveable cities is one of the most important goals of China's new urbanization development in the new era. Thus, understanding community residents' satisfaction in the rural-urban interface and its determinants is beneficial for constructing liveable cities and promoting the construction of safer, resilient, sustainable, inclusive and 15-min cities in China. This study aims to evaluate the community liveability satisfaction levels in relocated rural communities and identify the important influencing factors. Structural equation model (SEM) is used to capture the complex interrelationships between community liveability satisfaction, community environment, policy elements, community participation and other objective factors. The importance-performance analysis (IPA) is applied to measure the importance of relevant variables. The empirical results show that policy factors, and objective environment factors within the 15-min walking distance have significant positive impact on residents' community satisfaction. The mediating effect related to community participation strengthens not only the influence of policy elements on life satisfaction but also the effect of residents' subjective perception on community satisfaction.
