The costs of regulatory barriers to trade in services: New estimates of ad valorem tariff equivalents

Sebastian Benz and Alexander Jaax

Economics Letters, 2022, vol. 212, issue C

Abstract: This paper estimates policy-induced trade costs in five services sectors for 46 countries using structural gravity. Despite services trade having tripled in the last two decades, the results show that trade costs remain high. The estimates highlight potential for services trade liberalisation and can support trade policy modelling.
