Restaurant closures during the COVID-19 pandemic: A descriptive analysis

Dmitry Sedov

Economics Letters, 2022, vol. 213, issue C

Abstract: This paper analyzes restaurant closure patterns during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Using establishment-level data from Yelp and SafeGraph, I describe restaurant and location characteristics related to the closure decisions. Lower-rated restaurants and restaurants located closer to the city center were more likely to close in 2020.
