Abstract: Lignite is a kind of low-rank coal with abundant reserves and low price in China, but the high moisture content and low calorific value greatly restrict the large-scale utilization of it. Hydrothermal dewatering (HTD) is a promising drying method for dewatering and upgrading lignite. Meanwhile, re-adsorption is an important index to evaluate feasibility of a drying project. In this study, the effects of drying properties of an Inner Mongolia lignite under HTD and moisture re-adsorption of the upgrading lignite after HTD were investigated. The results indicate that HTD upgrading treatment has a significant effect on lignite composition, oxygen-containing functional groups, and pore structure. The effective diffusion coefficient of moisture and activation energy processed with equilibrium moisture decrease with the increasing of temperature. The drying process of equilibrium water can be described by thin-layer dynamics model and the Arrhenius formula. There existed fairly good linearity between the oxygen content, pore structure and moisture re-adsorption rate. The re-adsorption rate of the upgraded lignite was affected by oxygen-containing functional groups with a descending order of Ph-OH, COOH, CO and Ar-OH.
