•Demand pressure on electricity is lower in areas with many single-family homes.•Home ownership is a driver of electricity consumption.•Increased leisure associated with the lockdown inhibits electricity consumption.•Educational assignments should be designed to be done on PCs or smartphones.•Student behaviour leads to tablet use positively influencing electricity consumption.
