Abstract: The mechanism of fuel injection and system of fuel mixing have a crucial effect in the combustion process in scramjet engines. The present study discusses the injection of fuel from the side section of the strut located inside the combustion chamber. The most attemp of the present study is to discuss the fuel spreading and diffusion when the fuel jet is released along the spanwise direction. The effect of injection height on the side section of the strut fine is also studied in this research. The numerical method of CFD is used for simulation of the compressible flow of supersonic air (Mach = 4) in the existence of a cross-fuel jet. Obtained results show that side injection on the lobe strut is related to the height and shape of the strut. Results show that the 3-lobe strut is more efficient (18%) for the lateral injection mechanism in contrast to a 4-lobe strut. Increasing the height of the strut would enhance the fuel mixing via the production of a more powerful horseshoe vortex.
