Finance Research Letters, 2022, vol. 49, issue C

Abstract: This study aims to bridge the gap that has remained unfilled after the initial scrutiny and reporting of the damaging effects of Covid-19 on financial markets. The study analyzes 10 European stock markets and compares their pre and post covid return dynamics. Our findings are surprisingly pleasant, albeit counterintuitive to some. We observe a quick and unprecedented recovery in the European stock market, yielding significantly higher returns post covid, given a reasonably large holding period. We also observe an alteration and change in the status quo of countries while transmitting or receiving cross-market spillovers.
