Should you listen to crypto YouTubers?

Stefanie Moser and Alexander Brauneis

Finance Research Letters, 2023, vol. 54, issue C

Abstract: YouTube content drives prices and trading volume of low cap cryptocurrencies. Using a sample of 305 YouTube videos, we find significant positive abnormal returns as well as abnormal trading volume in the wake of the coverage of a specific coin. These effects are transitory though, excess returns and excess volume are reversed shortly thereafter.
