Abstract:
This paper analyzes the performance of Islamic banks (IBs) in Qatar compared to their conventional counterparts (CBs), considering the effects of four major events: The subprime crisis, economic blockade, Covid pandemic, and the Russian–Ukrainian conflict. We collected quarterly data from seven listed Qatari banks (4 CBs and 3 IBs). We examine and compare their performance and financial ratios evolution from January 2008 to December 2022 in terms of profitability, asset growth, solvency, liquidity risk, management investment preference, and operating efficiency. We use the t-test to evaluate the effects of the four major shocks on IBs and CBs performance.
