Abstract:
With the booming of digital transformation, traditional manufacturing companies are confronted by an increasing shortage of digital talents, leading to more Internet talents to join these companies. What impact does Internet talents have on the digital transformation? This paper finds that a higher proportion of Internet-experience talents in the executive team significantly boosts the digital transformation. This finding is robust after mitigating the endogeneity problem. Additionally, we find that executive power and tenure are two channels through which Internet talents facilitate digital transformation in manufacturing companies. Internet talents indirectly enhance digital transformation by boosting R&D.
