Natural resource endowment and its lmpact on ecological efficiency

Abstract:
China's economy grew at an impressive rate, but concerns about its ecological efficiency and the sustainability of its natural resource endowment emerged. The effect of China's natural resource endowment on ecological efficiency from 2005 to 2020 was evaluated using the entropy weight method. Our study revealed several significant findings; China's more naturally resource-endowed regions have frequently seen more substantial economic growth. The difficulty in striking a balance between economic development and environmental sustainability is highlighted by the fact that this growth was only sometimes accompanied by commensurate increases in ecological efficiency. While environmental concerns and policies played a more significant role in shaping ecological efficiency outcomes in later years, resource abundance was still a significant driver of economic growth in earlier years. These findings provide insightful information for researchers and policymakers regarding the intricate interactions in China between environmental sustainability, economic growth, and natural resources.
