Resources Policy, 2024, vol. 96, issue C

Abstract: This research addresses the critical problem of balancing environmental sustainability with economic growth in resource-intensive industries. The primary objectives are to identify effective strategies for sustainable management and to evaluate their impact on reducing climate change, protecting biodiversity, and enhancing the socioeconomic well-being of dependent communities. Employing novel methodologies, including a thorough analysis of case studies, empirical data, time series data, and original surveys conducted between January and March 2023, this study investigates the resilience of businesses to risks such as limited energy supplies, safety regulations, and shifting consumer demands. The integration of time series data allows for an in-depth examination of trends and changes over specific periods, enhancing the robustness of the findings. Key findings indicate that entrepreneurial strategies and prudent management of natural resources, such as water, land, and minerals, are essential for long-term success. However, there are complex implications for the direct impact of business strategies on profitability, particularly in the Chinese extraction industry. The research advocates for a comprehensive approach to sustainable practices, integrating social, economic, and environmental considerations. Policy recommendations emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts between communities, industry stakeholders, and governments to foster a green recovery. This paper provides strategic insights for policymakers, industry executives, and researchers, contributing to the discourse on sustainable development and offering a roadmap for a resilient and sustainable natural resource extraction sector.
