It is concluded that sustainable remediation is of great importance and that many advances have been made; however, the use of the term is still in adaptation process, especially in developing countries. In Brazil, at the same time as it is verified that has the regulatory structure focused on the management of contaminated sites is fairly recent, the sustainability considerations in this context are almost nonexistent.
