Amazing aspects of inequality indices (Gini and Kolkata Index) of COVID-19 confirmed cases in India

Abstract: Social inequalities are everywhere. The Gini Index (g) and the newly introduced Kolkata Index (k) are two simple indices for measuring inequality hidden in any kind of social issue. In this work, temporal variation of k and g for confirmed COVID-19 cases within 28 states and 8 union territories of India has been studied. The time-span of the study of this temporal variation is nearly two years and three months. A careful observation of this temporal variation of k and g reveals many interesting aspects. It hints at the limiting nature of the inequality indices hidden in social issues. This temporal variation also fluctuates between an upper and lower limit. Again, both inequality indices bear a negative correlation with the number of new COVID-19 cases detected in each 5 day interval. These features of temporal variation of inequality indices also help us to predict the future trend of COVID-19 cases.
