International Journal of Production Economics, 2022, vol. 246, issue C

Abstract: The emergence and rapid evolution of additive manufacturing have led to disruptive changes in the business landscape. However, empirical research on how additive manufacturing creates value for firms is still limited. This study, therefore, examines the relationships between additive manufacturing, new product development performance, and competitive advantage with moderating role of environmental dynamism. The sample consists of 226 manufacturing firms in Turkey. The results indicate that additive manufacturing is positively related to new product development performance and competitive advantage. For these relationships, a positive moderating effect of environmental dynamism is found. It is further demonstrated that new product development performance fully mediates the association between additive manufacturing and competitive advantage.
