Abstract: Compared with the conventional power system, the power-converter-dominated microgrid has it special features, especially time-varying, nonlinearity, weak anti-interference low-inertia and multi-time scale. These characteristics constitute new challenge to the modelling and stability analysis, since the stability analysis tools used for the power system based on AC synchronous-generator are not valid anymore in this case. In practice, the dynamic characteristics of multiple micro-sources and loads are coupled, interacted with each other. The recent publications have been reported the stability of microgrid, but not in a comprehensive and systematic way. To fill this gap, an overview of the large-disturbance stability for power-converter-dominated microgrid is presented. The characteristics and stability analysis of power-converter-dominated microgrid are discussed. Moreover, the technical challenges of using the conventional methods for power-converter-dominated microgrid are presented. Large-disturbance stability analysis with the Lyapunov method is discussed. Also, the step-by-step analysis based on the Lyapunov method is presented for the power-converter-dominated microgrid.
