•This study investigates Natural resource-FDI curse hypothesis.•Natural resources have a negative impact on total FDI inflows in GCC countries.•Natural resources generate greater impact on resource FDI than non-resource FDI in GCC.•Corruption has positive effect on resource FDI in GCC.
