A patent based evaluation of technological innovation capability in eight economic regions in PR China

Abstract: One important indicator of technology innovation capability is the numbers of patents. This paper analyzes the application activities of Chinese patents in the eight economic regions of PR China, covering a time period of 1999-2004. The analysis was classified based on organizations types, subject areas, cooperation and technology distribution. This paper also discusses the relationship between GDP, R&D and the Chinese patent applications in various regions and different organizations.
