Abstract:
Many local conflicts against State and regional public institutions about urban waste have been developed in Campania since the 90s. These conflicts have been promoted by grassroots socioecological movements, through several kinds of public action, often characterized by resistance and disobedience. The paper aims to go beyond the usual interpretations of this kind of conflicts, especially the ones based on the Nimby syndrome, following the world-ecology theoretical perspective. The paper is articulated in four parts. In the first one, it is proposed a theoretical analysis of the urban waste production and management in the capitalist oikeios as a frontier. In the second part a brief history of the waste policy in Campania between 1994 and 2014 is shown, based on certain practices and processes of dispossession and appropriation of nature. The third part focused on an analysis of the observed socioecological conflicts as postcolonial conflicts. Finally, some notes about the relationship between these kind of conflicts and the building of a different oikeios are proposed.
