Abstract:
This paper evaluates the role of emerging and developing economies as providers of finance to the European Union. In particular it explores the evolution of foreign exchange reserves accumulated in Euro, and direct investment to the European Union from emerging and developing countries. It is argued that such financial flows are unlikely to promote substantial economic development in European countries.
