Abstract: Russia's ban on imported food and agricultural products from the European Union, the United States, as well as from other countries such as Norway and Australia, has had significant impacts. However, these impacts have only been assessed from the exporters' point of view, with, for example, people being quick to stress the economic damage done to French meat, dairy, fruit, and vegetable producers. Without playing down the importance of the losses related to the closure of the Russian market, it seemed relevant to further investigate the impacts that Russia's import ban has had on Russia itself. This article shows that this trade policy has reinforced a long-term trend observed since the 2000s: the successful recovery of Russian agriculture. Thus, Russia remains one of the world's major players in agriculture.
