Abstract:
"On January 1, 2015 a statutory minimum wage was introduced in Germany. The Arbeitsmarktspiegel shows several important developments of the German labour market since its introduction. While overall employment in Germany continues to show a positive trend, the number of exclusively marginal part-time employees drops markedly at the turn of the year. This effect is strongest in industries and regions with a low average wage level. A little more than half of the decrease can be explained by persons changing directly into exclusively employment subject to social security. Yet, the data also show an increased amount of exits out of the labour market or at least out of the group of persons covered by the data. Transitions into unemployment play a rather secondary role in explaining the decline of marginal employment. The number of employees receiving additional benefits according to Social Code Book II slightly decreases after the introduction of the minimum wage. For this group, both the transitions into employment without benefit receipt as well as into exclusive benefit receipt are slightly increased." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
