Abstract: "The marked differences in regional distribution and integration of migrants also affect the structural framework of Job Centres. Against this background, this study examines the extent to which the IAB method of classification of Job Centres should be refined in order to adequately reflect the influence of migration and EU internal migration on the underlying target variables. The results of the study are as follows: The replication of the IAB classification with data from 2015 still shows a high level of explanation power (measured on R2), even with the existing comparison types from 2013. Although the weight of individual variables has shifted to some extent, the existing classification types from 2013 still offer a similarly good explanatory power as that of a classification with data at the end of 2015. Therefore, an update of the classification scheme using the updated variables is not required at the current time. The context variable, which has so far been used for immigration - 'Population non-EU' - is no longer statistically significant for all three target variables with the 2015 data level. The selected new variables provide significant results but only marginally improve the overall explanation of classification. For a future update of the classification, the project group recommends to replace the insignificant variable 'Population non-EU' by the two variables 'Long-term beneficiaries from EU accession countries since 2004' and 'Persons in the working age population from asylum-seekers' countries of origin'."
