Abstract: "The research paper analyses the job quality of employees who receive supplemental basic income support. In contrast to previous studies that mainly considered formal job characteristics, the focus is on how employees subjectively perceive their job situation. In particular, different aspects of the intrinsic job quality and job strain are examined. We compare employees receiving welfare benefits with non-recipients using data from the panel study 'Labour Market and Social Security' (PASS). In a multivariate analysis we, first, explore the determinants of psycho-social strain at work. Second, we investigate how work-related job strain and other job characteristics are related to on-the-job search. The findings highlight the fact that the work context of benefit recipients provides rather unfavourable conditions for continued employment. It is also shown that psycho-social strain at work favours on-the-job search of both employed benefit recipients and non-recipients." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
