Abstract:
"The Arbeitsmarktspiegel shows important developments on the German labour market since the introduction of the statutory minimum wage in Germany. For the sixth edition, data until December 2017 is available. Based on the long observation period, we can distinguish between short-term and longer-term changes after the introduction of the minimum wage. During the three years after the introduction of the minimum wage, overall employment has continuously increased. This is mainly due to an increase in employment subject to social security. The number of marginal employees, which had decreased considerably after the introduction of the minimum wage in 2015, has since continued to follow a slightly declining path. We do not find any note-worthy adjustments following the minimum wage increase in 2017. The Arbeitsmarktspiegel also examines developments for specific subgroups of the labour market. The sixth edition takes a look at full and part-time employment, showing that the number of part-time employees subject to social security grows while at the same time marginal employment declines. The sixth edition also includes low-level regional information for 96 Raumordnungsregionen. Five editions of the Arbeitsmarktspiegel have been released so far. This research report represents an updated version with partly varying topics." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
