FOOD SECURITY AND POPULATION WELFARE IN ROMANIA

Mihaela Kruzslicika

Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, 2016, vol. 13, issue 1, 79-93

Abstract: The paper targets one of the four specific pillars of food security, namely stability in food availability and access. This will be investigated from the perspective of relevant indicators: the self-sufficiency level nationwide and through the evolution of main factors that influence the access of each person to food. The data on the availability of main food products from domestic production, i.e. the self-sufficiency level, provides a valuable perspective in nutrition evolution. The people’s access to food is investigated from the perspective of incomes and food expenditures, both for own-produced and bought foodstuffs, without sacrificing other basic needs.
