Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the evolution of the Romanian vegetable sector from 2007 (the year of Romania’s accession to the European Union) to 2016. Given the particularities of the sector, the quantitative and qualitative analysis of data shows that the agricultural sector needs to increase the areas cultivated under protected areas, thus reducing the off-season periods, which would contribute to the diminution of dependence on vegetable imports. This would also have a significant role in reducing the trade deficit in this segment.
