Adoption of corporate entrepreneurship: managing domestic and global competitiveness through the lens of entrepreneurial orientation

International Journal of Business and Emerging Markets, 2016, vol. 8, issue 3, 307-323

Abstract: The concept of corporate entrepreneurship (CE) is examined for its applicability through the lens of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as presented by Lumpkin and Dess (1996, 2001) in an international setting. We focus on specific contextual variables that may play a role in determining the behaviour of established firms towards the adoption of CE in India. Indian firms were highly regulated and highly protected prior to the 1991 economic policy of the Government of India. Our framework proposes that depending on the varying contextual situations, the starting point or the early acceptance of the adoption of EO dimensions is different among diverse categories of well established firms when experiencing changes in the market conditions depending upon whether they are competing in a domestic or global context.
