Utilisation of performance measurement information in management: top manager perspective

Sanna Pekkola and Hannu Rantanen

International Journal of Business Performance Management, 2014, vol. 15, issue 1, 23-34

Abstract: The main purpose of the study is to analyse the role of performance measurement information in management, and what performance measurement information top managers use in their decision making. The study is a single case study of a company that manufactures kitchen fitments and operates in a turbulent environment. The company is part of a collaborative network. The research focus of the study is the top management of the main company. The results of the study are based on three semi-structured interviews and two action research processes. The study contributes to current understanding by analysing how performance measurement information has been utilised in the top-level management of the company, and goes a step further by studying the utilisation of performance measurement information in management. This can be regarded as an important theme because a lack of research focusing on this phase of performance measurement and management has been perceived.
