Abstract:
This paper presents a framework for measurement of manufacturing competence and business performance. This framework is applied to compute Manufacturing Competence Index and Business Performance Index, based on an extensive survey of Indian manufacturing companies. The study included companies from four major manufacturing sectors, viz. automobile, electronics, machinery, and process. Sector-wise Manufacturing Competence Index (MCI) and Business Performance Index (BPI) are calculated. An attempt is made to investigate the correlation between business performance and manufacturing competence.
