Abstract:
In this paper, an integrated framework is presented for the risk analysis of a compressor house unit (CHU) in a medium size coal fired thermal power plant located in northern part of India. Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) was done and the various components of the considered system were prioritised on the basis of RPN score. To overcome the limitations of traditional FMEA approach in risk ranking knowledge base approach namely fuzzy FMEA and grey relation analysis (GRA) were used. In fuzzy FMEA, a fuzzy decision support system (FDSS) was developed to compute the FRPN scores and the ranking of various components of the considered system has been done. The ranking results so obtained using fuzzy FMEA approach were compared with traditional FMEA ranking results. Further, to make an intelligent decision making of risky components of the considered system grey relation analysis (GRA) has been done using the same linguistic terms which were defined for fuzzy FMEA approach and the ranking results were compared with those of FMEA and fuzzy FMEA results. The analysis results would be useful to the system analyst to arrive at best decision making of risky components of the considered system and plan a suitable maintenance policy accordingly.
