Abstract:
An electronic value chain model containing 32 e-business solution items was developed to show how Information Technology (IT) could be adopted by oil enterprises. An investigation into the current IT implementation patterns by the top ten oil enterprises shows that these e-business items can be categorised into basic and specific solutions. The findings show that the oil enterprises have high utilisation of IT in the refining and production processes, but relatively low information content in the product dimension. The research results will be beneficial to managers and executives on strengthening e-energy security by accelerating IT adoptions in oil enterprises.
