THE EXTERNAL DIMENSION OF THE ENERGY UNION

Alina Dumitrescu and Iulia Oehler-Şincai

Euroinfo, 2017, vol. 1, issue 11-12, 40-56

Abstract: The main objective of this article, based on qualitative analysis, is to review Community initiatives to implement the Energy Union, highlighting EU partnerships in this area. This analysis is not an exhaustive one, but aims at capturing the main components and motivations of this ambitious Community project, strongly anchored in the current economic and geostrategic reality. In the view of the authors, the EU's external energy policy or the so-called "the external dimension of the EU" is a complex process, which at the same time requires a strategic vision of reducing the EU's energy dependency from a single source and ensures energy security by diversifying routes and energy sources, but also implies a very good negotiating capacity in order to obtain advantageous contracts and competitive prices for energy.
