Abstract:
Given the ambitious target set by the European Green Deal regarding the increasing of renewable energies (RES) share in the energy mix of all Member States, agriculture and rural areas may also contribute to achieving this goal while boosting the sustainable energy development across EU-27. Given this context, this paper aims to present the situation of the development of renewable energy in Romania, highlighting, at the same time, the progress made in this country compared to other Member States. Also, our article presents the main opportunities, but also challenges for financing renewable energies in the rural area of Romania. The final part of our analysis is dedicated to some brief conclusions on renewable energy financing in Romanian rural areas, taking into account the new funding available under the European Green Deal, but also the opportunities under the National Rural Development Plan.
