Abstract:
Created by the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and launched by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in 2012, the Medicaid Emergency Psychiatric Services Demonstration tests the effects of waiving the “institutions for mental disease†(IMD) exclusion for Medicaid beneficiaries with emergency psychiatric conditions who were admitted to 28 private IMDs in 11 states and the District of Columbia.
