The Growth of the Utilities Industries in Italy's Regions, 1861-1913

Abstract: Questo saggio presenta stime annuali della produzione delle industrie elettriche, del gas e dell'acqua nell'Italia post-Unitaria, disaggregate per regione e per industria. All'Unità era dominante l'industria dell'acqua, e grazie agli acquedotti di Roma il Lazio era di gran lunga in testa. Cinquant'anni più tardi l'industria principale è quella dell'elettricità; il Lazio conserva la massima produzione complessiva per abitante, ma è stato praticamente raggiunto dalle regioni del triangolo industriale, e pure dall'Umbria. Nel Mezzogiorno le industrie elettriche si sviluppano poco, ma la produzione cresce notevolmente, negli ultimi anni, grazie all'Acquedotto pugliese.
