Abstract: Official reports from developing countries brought significant shortcomings in the treatment of information to SMEs in general. Having automated information systems (IS) is mandatory, but even more important is that they are successful, which depends heavily on end-user satisfaction as the key that will lead to the expected benefits. Managerial levels and IT professionals should be familiar with the main factors associated with that success, to ensure their adequate treatment. This study evaluated the end-user satisfaction and several critical related success factors, in a sample of medium-sized industrial enterprises SMEs (SMIs), based on two IS critical to any organization, such as payroll and human resource management. For this purpose, one of the success models most recognized by the research community in the area was used. Practical benefits of this research are to call to reflection on these factors, to contribute to strengthen the effectiveness and quality of the development or acquisition process of an SI and to reduce their failure rate.
