Abstract:
The “research practice gap” has been subject of discussion among business management scholars, many of whom criticize a reportedly insufficient diffusion of academic research results into current business practice. Accordingly, consensus has emerged that management research should be designed in ways that produce findings which are as insightful for managers, as healthcare science results supposedly are for practicing physicians. However, progress concerning an enhanced integration of management research and practice continues to be strongly limited. In this paper, we study how concepts and methods developed by management scholars do and could better inform business practice. Focusing on a market development perspective and economic forces in the marketplace, we strive to identify and explain processes and endeavors that can provide substantial contributions to the future integration of research and practice in business management.
